Orthodontic Clear Aligners

Clear aligners have become one of the most popular ways to straighten teeth without the hassle of wires or metal in the mouth. They are essentially see-through mouthpieces that fit onto your teeth and are replaced every two weeks to bring your teeth to the desired placement over time.
This orthodontic treatment is ideal for teens and adults who want to straighten their teeth with minimal aesthetic interference. Other concerns clear aligners address are:
- Overcrowding
- Gaps
- Underbite
- Deep bite
- Crossbite
What is the procedure for getting clear aligners?
Dr Herman Jay’s clinic is equipped with leading dental technology to offer clients same-day procedures for clear aligners, thus avoiding the inconvenience of multiple appointments.
During your consultation, Dr Herman Jay will do a mouth examination and take a mould of your existing teeth to determine the fit of the aligners. The mould is then sent to the in-house laboratory to create the aligners, fitted and replaced every two weeks.
Getting your aligners is quick and efficient and perfect for those looking for no-hassle teeth aligners. How long you’ll wear your aligners is dependent on the severity of your case, but it can take anything between 10 and 24 months.
To maintain the results of your aligner, you will need to wear retainers. It’s natural for teeth to shift back to their original position, but retainers ensure that the results of your aligner are consistent.
Caring for your aligners
Much like you practice daily oral hygiene, you need to keep up a good cleaning routine with your aligners. If you don’t regularly cleanse and rinse your aligners, they can become cloudy, develop an odour and lead to a build-up of bacteria.
Here are a few ways to ensure that your aligners stay fresh:
- Brush your aligner daily with fluoride toothpaste
- Rise your aligner daily, but avoid harsh mouthwashes
- Remove your aligner for eating and drinking (except for water)
- Store your aligner in a case when not in use
